In May 17-20 2015, Sundance Institute’s Documentary Film Program lead third time Institute workshop for independent Chinese documentary filmmakers. Co-hosted with CNEX, a five-year-old Beijing-based foundation dedicated to supporting artistic documentaries about contemporary Chinese life, the gathering brought together 11 projects from several regions in China to work with a group of international Advisors on story and structure, to best address the needs of these filmmakers in a four-day forum.
Among the workshops of 2011 to 2014, there were totally 41 documentary film projects joined this programme. Through the workshop and forum, we hope to build a platform for Chinese independent documentary creators to communicate with international experts.
Founded in 1981 by actor Robert Redford, Sundance Film Festival (SDFF) is an annual festival held at its headquarters in Utah, USA, and is an important voice for independent filmmaking around the world. The Sundance Film Festival Society’s Documentary Film Programme (DFP) is dedicated to supporting documentary filmmakers around the world to produce documentary films that reflect contemporary issues, especially human interest. Through this work, the DFP encourages artists to exchange ideas that are key to building a more open society.
