The CNEX Hong Kong Social Impact Documentary Pitching Workshop (CNEX 社會影響力提案工作坊) was held from 12th to 15th July, 2024, at Eaton Workshop Hong Kong. This is a four-day intensive workshop including Masterclass by our 3 experienced mentors, one-on-one section, and documentary film screenings and sharing.
The workshop started to call for entry from May, and received nearly 20 work-in-progress projects submissions. A total of 6 projects from Hong Kong and Mainland China had been selected, as shown on the table above.
From July to December 2024, CNEX will continue to stay in touch with the 6 project teams to help match resources for their production and Social Distribution distribution strategic planning.

Our Mentors
CNEX have invited 4 mentors whom are experienced and prize-winning documentary filmmakers, including:
☆ Violet Feng Du (Emmy Award-winning Documentary film director and executive producer. Her producing and directing works including: “Please Remember Me” (2015), “Hidden Letters” (2022). )
☆ Cheuk Cheung (Hong Kong film director, founder of the production organization A Priori Image. His works including “My Way” (2012) and “Bamboo Theatre” (2019) . )
☆ Siu-Pong Wong (Hong Kong Documentary film director, works including: “Fish Story” (2013) , “Snuggle” (2016), “3CM” (2019). The film “Snuggle” had won the title of Yearly Recommended Film in the 23rd Hong Kong Film Critics Society Awards, 2016. )
☆ Zhao Qing (Documentary film and TV programme producer and director based on Shanghai. Her directing works including “Please Remember Me” (2015). )
Screening Programme of mentors’ documentary film works
To recap the screening programme during the Workshop, 3 screenings were held from 12th to 14th July night, at Kino Eaton Workshop. This event was not only for the project teams but also open to the public.
CNEX have chosen 6 documentary films directed and produced by the mentors, including: “My Way” and “Bamboo Theatre” directed by Cheuk Cheung, “Hidden Letters” and “Please Remember Me” directed and produced by Violet Feng, and the reality show series “Adventure Life” directed by Zhao Qing.
A post-screening Q&A session was held each day, Cheuk Cheung, Violet Feng and Zhao Qing shared interesting facts and story behind the production, and how the film made a social impact. Audiences also expressed their feelings about the films and interacted with the directors.
Thanks to those who participated and enjoyed this Workshop and screening programme. We hope to bring more industry and education programmes in the near future. Stay tuned!
