This summer, CNEX launches\u00a0CNEX DOC ACADEMY<\/b>, a new international professional development program for documentary creators. Bringing together internationally acclaimed directors, editors, and producers, the Academy supports filmmakers in advancing their projects through thematic workshops, one-on-one mentorship, and cross-cultural exchange.<\/p>\n

CNEX DOC ACADEMY consists of four programs:\u00a0Short Docs Lab<\/b>,\u00a0Editing Lab<\/b>,\u00a0Producers\u2019 Lab<\/b>, and\u00a0Storytelling Lab<\/b>. Open calls will be announced in phases. Participation is free of charge for all programs, and all workshops will be conducted in English.<\/p>\n

Editing Lab\u00a0SUBMISSION<\/strong><\/b><\/p>\n

Editing is the most mysterious, and most decisive moment in documentary filmmaking. It\u2019s where footage begins to be revisited again, and where a story truly takes shape. The rhythm, the point of view, the emotional weight of a film: these aren\u2019t always visible during the shoot. More often, they emerge slowly in the edit, revealed through time and attention.<\/p>\n

If you\u2019ve finished the principle of photography, your hard drives are full, and you\u2019re still searching for what this story is really about, the CNEX Doc Academy Editing Lab was made for exactly this moment.<\/p>\n

We invite documentary filmmakers in post-production to bring their rough cuts in, and work intensively alongside world-class editors to revisit your material, untangle your narrative logic, and find the true structure and voice of your film. The Lab includes in-depth one-on-one editing sessions, rough cut screenings with substantive feedback, and expert lectures, designed to help you make a decisive leap forward in the edit.<\/p>\n

This edition\u2019s four mentors are award-winning editors with extensive international experience and hard-won expertise across a wide range of projects: Joe Bini, Doug Blush, Jeff Gilbert, and Flavia Desouza.\u00a0<\/b>They will be with selected teams throughout the entire workshop, helping filmmakers see the potential already living in their footage and sharpen both the overall completion of the work and its narrative force.<\/p>\n

The Lab will select two projects from Taiwan and two from across Asia, bringing filmmakers from different backgrounds into the same editing room to work side by side and in dialogue with one another, different footage, different cultural contexts, the same search for a breakthrough in post. We believe that this kind of encounter is itself a form of editing: placing different experiences in juxtaposition, and seeing what sparks.<\/p>\n

We believe the most precise stories are often hiding in the spaces between shots. We look forward to meeting your film.<\/p>\n

Participation in the program is free of charge. Accommodation and on-site learning and exchange spaces will be provided.<\/b><\/p>\n

Participants based outside Taipei or overseas are responsible for their own travel expenses to attend the workshop, as well as any visa fees or related costs, if applicable.<\/b><\/p>\n

The workshop takes place in Taipei, Taiwan.<\/b><\/p>\n

\u25b6\u00a0Eligibility Requirements<\/b><\/p>\n

The Editing Lab will select two Taiwan-based projects and two projects from across Asia, four teams in total. We welcome any filmmaker deep in the post-production process.<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Project stage:<\/b>\u00a0Submitted projects must be documentary works currently in production, with a completed rough cut.<\/li>\n
  2. Age and experience:<\/b>\u00a0Applicants must be 18 years of age or older. The director must have previously completed at least one documentary film of any length.<\/li>\n
  3. Language:<\/b>\u00a0As the workshop is led entirely by international mentors, participants must have sufficient English proficiency to discuss their work and engage in creative dialogue.<\/li>\n
  4. Full attendance:<\/b>\u00a0Selected teams are required to attend all workshop sessions and editing discussions in person. Inability to participate in person will result in disqualification.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
